Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup

First step: Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup- Connecting and placing the Netgear WN3500RP N600

In the first step of doing the Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup, Place the extender in the same room as of your router. This placement of extender into the same place where the router is already placed is necessary only when we are doing the initial setup. In the second step of doing the Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup, we will connect the extender to the existing wifi network. It is necessary as we want to extend the range of already existing wifi network and turn the dead zones of the network into the live ones. this can be done in two ways:

Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup- Connect the extender with wifi protected setup(WPS)

In the process of doing the Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup, and while connecting the extender with WPS, press the WPS button on the extender. You will see when you are pressing the WPS button, the WPS LED light will blink. Now in the next two minutes, on your router please press the WPS button. When you will see that the WPS LED light and 2.4 GHz Link Rate LED on your Netgear extender turns light solid green, then the extender has established a connection with your already existing wifi network/router/access point.

If in case the 2.4 GHz Link Rate LED does not light, or the LED is blinking amber, try again.

If your router is 5 GHz band enabled and compatible with 5 GHz band then again press the WPS button on the extender. You will see when you are pressing the WPS button, the WPS LED light will blink. Now in the next two minutes, on your router please press the WPS button. When you will see that the WPS LED light and 2.4 GHz Link Rate LED on your Netgear extender turns light solid green, then the extender has established a connection with your already existing wifi network/router/access point.

After this, moving further with Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup, locate the new extender’s network name. You can easily find it. The new extender’s network name adjust itself with the similarity of your existing router’s network name. You can see it with _2GEXT or _5GEXT at the end of the name, depending on whether the extender is connecting to your WiFi network in 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.

Proceeding with Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup, Now connect your wifi devices to new extender network. You can use the same password to login which you use for your router’s network. Now open the web browser and open the URL https://my-wifiexts.net/ and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup.

In the last step of Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup, Now unplug the extender and place it to another location where network connection signals are poor/weak but must be within the range of your existing WiFi router network. connect the extender into the power socket and connect it to the power adaptor. Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup- Connect the extender with NETGEAR genie Smart Setup

In the first step of doing the Netgear WN3500RP N600 Setup and connecting the extender with Netgear smart Genie setup, you can use any wifi device like any computer, mobile or Tab. In your wifi enabled device, open wifi network manager and after that connect to the NETGEAR_EXT (SSID) WiFi network. When the connection between extender’s connection with wifi device computer o mobile is established, you will see that the extender’s LED light will turn green. Now after this, open the web browser into your mobile or computer and then the browser will automatically take you to the Netgear smart Genie setup. But if in case this does not happen then launch a web browser and type www.mywifiext.net in the address field. Enter admin for the user name and password for the password.

Now after this, select the 2.4 GHz WiFi network and press the continue button to move further. After it, enter the password in the network key option and click on the continue button to move further. If your router is % GHz enabled then Select a 5 GHz WiFi network and click the Continue button. If your router does not support the 5 GHz band, click the Skip button. Again enter the password in the network key option and click on the continue button to move further.

After this, enter the network name for new extender WiFi network in the 2.4GHz Network Name (SSID) field and the 5GHz Network Name (SSID) field and click the Continue button. Also, select the checkbox name as use the same security mode and password as those for the existing network. the done settings will be applied then.

Now connect any other new wifi device with above-mentioned settings. Like open wifi network manager and after that connect to the NETGEAR_EXT (SSID) WiFi network. When the connection between extender’s connection with wifi device computer o mobile is established, you will see that the extender’s LED light will turn green. Now after this, open the web browser into your mobile or computer and then the browser will automatically take you to the Netgear smart Genie setup. But if in case this does not happen then launch a web browser and type www.mywifiext.net in the address field. Enter admin for the user name and password for the password.

Now after this, select the 2.4 GHz WiFi network and press the continue button to move further. After it, enter the password in the network key option and click on the continue button to move further. After this unplug the extender and place it to another location where network connection signals are poor/weak but must be within the range of your existing WiFi router network. connect the extender into the power socket and connect it to the power adaptor. When you had placed the power into the extender you will see that the Power LED lights solid amber when it is powering on and then turns solid green when the extender is fully powered on and ready. If in case the extender’s power LEd does not on then press the Power button. For choosing the location of the extender which is optimum for it, you can take help of the Link-rate LED lights 

How to reset Netgear WN3500RP N600

Please remember if you reset your Netgear WN3500 N600 extender then your extender will be reset to its default factory settings. Any previously done settings will be removed and default settings will be applied. Here are the steps mentioned below to be followed to reset the Netgear EN3500 N600:

  • Locate the factory reset button on the Netgear Wn3500 N600, you can refer image above for the extender’s reset button. Now take a sharp object to hold the reset button. For this purpose, you can take any pen or paper clip to press and hold the Factory Reset button on the extender. Now press the reset button on the extender with this object almost for five seconds until the Power LED blinks amber.
  • After five seconds of holding the reset button, now release the reset button. After this wait for few seconds as the extender will start rebooting.

Troubleshooting Netgear wifi range extender

  1. Unable to connecting to www.mywifiext.net

  • Please make sure when you are a first time setting up your extender then please Bring your range extender into the same room as your wireless router.
    This proximity is temporary as when After setup is complete and you have a working connection to the wireless router, you can move the extender to its desired location.
  • Also, check the power socket that it is receiving the desired power supply. Also, Make sure that the NETGEAR wireless range extender is plugged into a power source. If the extender is receiving power, the power LED lights.
  • Also, heck If your NETGEAR wireless range extender has a PC to Extender LED or a Device to Extender LED, make sure that it is lit.
    If it is not lit, unplug both ends of the Ethernet cable that is connecting your range extender to your device and plug it in again.
  • open the web browser of your choice ie. Mozilla,i.e., chrome etc. In your web browser’s address bar, enter the extender’s default IP address: 192.168.1.250.
  • If you in case you cannot access your extender then reset your browser and try again.
  • Sometimes a particular pose the issue. So try using a different web browser to verify that the issue is not browser related.
  • Connect your PC to the extender via Ethernet cable.
  • Assign your computer a static IP address. So Before you change any network settings, note your current Default gateway (Windows) or Router (Mac) address. Use the IP address 192.168.1.249 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

2. How to find wifi range extender password

  • Firstly use any device which is wifi enabled like a computer or any other, after it uses the wifi enabled a device which is connected to your Wi-Fi Range Extender via ethernet or wireless connection.
  • Now open the web browser of your choice ie. Mozilla,i.e., chrome etc. In the address bar of the browser type www.mywifiext.net
  • Now login with your Username and Password. After it chooses the option Settings then Wireless.
  • Locate the option General and then Under General, look for WiFi Password. If it says Same as existing network password, it is using the same WiFi password as your main WiFi router. If it says Use a different password, it will show the type of password under Security Type and the Network Key.

3. Wifi range extender intermittent wireless connection

  • Please make sure that the extender is connected to the power adaptor which came along with it an has the proper power supply to it.
  • Always place the extender in existing wifi network range where network signal is poor. And client device is connected to the extender’s network.
  • Also, open extender GUI by clicking on www.mywifiext.net
  • If in case it is prompting for Email and Password, please use the same email and password that you have set up for extender account. If in case it is prompting for Username and Password, by default Username is admin and Password is password. If the default password is not working you might have already changed the password. So use the password that you have changed.
  • Try connecting the device either through a wired or wireless network of the extender.

  • Please verify if the extender is having the latest firmware. Here is the guide to update the firmware:
  1. in the first step of doing the update of wifi range extender firmware update, click in Device Update page. Click “Check” to confirm if there is a new firmware update or not. If you find a new firmware update then please proceed to update the firmware.
    Note: For NETGEAR extender with the latest NETGEAR genie UI(eg: EX7000), click Firmware Update and then CHECK ONLINE. If new firmware is found, proceed to update the firmware.
  2. When the firmware is successfully updated, reset the extender. You can do it with the help of inserting a small pin or a paperclip to the reset hole of the extender for about 30 seconds. After resetting the extender, wait for the extender to boot up properly. After this please verify if the power light is either solid green or white.

4. Wifi range extender network name(SSID) not detecting

  • Firstly connect the computer with extender using an ethernet cable. After it
  • opens extender GUI by clicking on www.mywifiext.net
  • If in case it is prompting for Email and Password, please use the same email and password that you have set up for extender account. If in case it is prompting for Username and Password, by default Username is admin and Password is password. If the default password is not working you might have already changed the password. So use the password that you have changed.
  • Visit the extender’s wifi settings and check if “Enable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi” or “Enable 5GHz Wi-Fi” and “Broadcast this Network name(SSID)” are checked. If not check them and click Save. If it is an older version of NETGEAR genie UI, you have to go to Advance – WiFi Settings–Check “Enable Wireless Access Point” and “Enable SSID Broadcast
  • Please make sure that the extender is connected to the live power socket and Firmware of the extender is updated.
    • Here is the guide to update the firmware:
    1. in the first step of doing the update of wifi range extender firmware update, click in Device Update page. Click “Check” to confirm if there is a new firmware update or not. If you find a new firmware update then please proceed to update the firmware.
      Note: For NETGEAR extender with the latest NETGEAR genie UI(eg: EX7000), click Firmware Update and then CHECK ONLINE. If new firmware is found, proceed to update the firmware.
    2. When the firmware is successfully updated, reset the extender. You can do it with the help of inserting a small pin or a paperclip to the reset hole of the extender for about 30 seconds. After resetting the extender, wait for the extender to boot up properly. After this please verify if the power light is either solid green or white.

5. Netgear extender blinking power LED issue

  1. In the first step, please make sure the extender is connected to the power source properly.
  2. When checked the power supply try to reset the extender. You can reset the extender by inserting a pin or a paper clip to the Reset hole for about 20 seconds.
  3. In case you are still facing the issue as if the power LED is still blinking, download the latest firmware of the extender and save it to a convenient place like your desktop.
  4. Also, download the TFTP software
  5. When you had done the updated firmware and TFTP software, perform a hard reset on the extender and reboot the extender afterward. we will advise you to do a hard reset on the extender before performing the firmware recovery to ensure that the extender is on its default settings.
  6. Now connect the computer hardwired to the extender and check if you can give it a valid IP address. If in the condition of no then, kindly assign a static IP address to the computer in the range of the IP address of the extender.
    Power cycle the computer.
  7. When the computer is ready after reboot, open the Command prompt and try to ping the IP address of extender. Please make sure that the default IP address of NETGEAR extender is 192.168.1.250.
  8. If you are able to ping the extender successfully, proceed with Step 10. If not, the firmware of the extender is beyond recovery.
  9. Run the TFTP2.exe file we have downloaded earlier.
  10. Type in the IP address in the Server box and password on the Password box.
  11. On the File section, click on the browse button (the button with three dots) and select the latest firmware that we downloaded earlier.
  12. Click on the Upgrade button and check the message that will show up.
  13. If you see a message saying that the upgrade is successful, change the IP address of the computer to DHCP again.
    Note: Once the recovery process is complete, the power LED should turn solid green or white. If the power LED continues to flash green, inform the customer that we cannot recover the firmware of the extender and it should be replaced.
